Hi!
I'm Ling Pitts - born and raised in Hong Kong, currently residing in Singapore. I have a passion for drawing and painting ever since when I was young, attending calligraphy and painting classes after school. After graduating with diploma of visual arts in Hong Kong, I decided to continue my studies in arts and attended few courses (acrylic, oil) in Lasalle art college and Chinese art wet mount classes in Singapore. Hong Kong & Singapore are both places with a blend of Asian and Western cultures. So I think ink will be a great medium for my works creations.
I decided to restart ink painting in 2020 during pandemic. Applying ink on different materials can be so different. Like when it diluted with water / when it not. When paper absorb it quickly / when it takes longer time to get dry on canvas. It is truly beautiful to see this process happen. I fell in love with painting and experimenting with ink and it's now a meditation for me. Calligraphy and painting are always a way to keep myself calm. I will continuously trying ink on different mixed media on a variety of different materials : shikishi board, mulberry paper, watercolour paper and canvas!

Materials
NAME SEAL
I have a Chinese name seal 露玲. A hand-carved English name seal (LINGPITTS). And a few smaller ones also produced : 囍 Double Happiness, 初心 Initial Intention, 玲 Ling, 海 Ocean.
THE PASTE
Seal typically used with red ink or cinnabar paste.
INK
I use liquid ink dilute with water as it is very convenient. During Chinese New Year I will use liquid gold ink for new year couplets and fai chun.

PAPER
Chinese Calligraphy value coarse-textured and absorbent paper. White raw Rice paper / Xuan paper is always my favourite. Sometimes I use grid patterns paper for practice calligraphy.
BRUSHES
For calligraphy we use the same brushes as painting. Brushes handles are made of bamboo, and goat, or weasel hair.
